Hadley Farms Swim Team Sponsors -Thank You to our Sponsors!

parents

Parents: Welcome to the Hadley Farms Great White Sharks Swim Team Website!

Please remember to check your email regularly for reminders and other team information. We highly recommend checking daily once swim season begins! Each family with a registered swimmer on the team, has a folder that will be available before, during, and after each practice and meet.  Swimmers are responsible for checking the folders for team announcements and for picking up their meet ribbons.  You can also use these folders to communicate with the coaches, parent reps.

A team bulletin board and calendar is posted in the entrance to the pool.  Check the board for announcements, schedule changes, and other communications from the coaches.

Important Meet Information:
Please complete the meet attendance sheet in the attendance binder for EACH MEET to let the coaches know which swimmers are available for all of the meets. All you need to do is sign in for each meet your swimmer will be swimming. The coaches will be creating the line-up for each meet and it is imperative that we have this information NO LATER than 48 hours before that particular meet. If you have not identified on the sheets that you will be attending, the coaches will assume your swimmer is not available for that meet and will not be placed in the line-up. The attendance binder will be at each practice. Check with the Parent Reps or Coaches if you can not locate it.

Parent Volunteers:
Parents are needed in many areas for the team to function efficiently. Parents of Hadley Farms Great White Sharks swimmers are required to take an active role in helping the swim team. This includes helping at meets and social activities. Everyone has something to offer. Below are some guidelines that will help you and your swimmer. Additional information is available in the Swimmer Handbook, download a copy to review.
  • Keep yourself informed by reading all publications and emails from the team. Check your swimmer's file folder and our team website often for current information.
  • Volunteer your time at swim meets as directed up by the Parent Reps. It takes the whole parent membership to put on a successful meet. When attending away meets, your help is still a necessity and, during all of the team's social and fundraising events, your assistance is needed. With all of us helping, the work should be evenly distributed among us. We want our swimmers to be proud of the job their parents do.
  • If you have a special skill and are willing to volunteer that skill to the team, please let us know. Extra help is always welcomed!
  • Be on the lookout for a sign-up email with information on how to sign up to volunteer.

Below are key positions that are required to staff each swim meet:
Timers:  18 total, plus 1 Head Timer.  Each team supplies 9 for away meets; 10 (including head timer) for home meets – 3 total timers per lane.  The Senior Meet Official and Head Timer will assign each timer a lane prior to the start of the meet.  Timers will STAND at the edge of the pool at the finish of each race, stopping the watch when the swimmer touches the edge of the pool.  Timers are not to judge the quality or legality of the swimmers' strokes/turns; just to record the swimmer’s time.

Ribbon Writer:  1 for home and away meets – affixes printed stickers for each swimmer to the back label of the applicable ribbon.  Each ribbon writer will take care of the ribbons for his/her team. Ribbon writers may take the occasional break to watch the swimmers, just be sure to get back from time to time so the work doesn’t get too far behind.

Card Runner:  Home team supplies one card runner – collects swimmers’ time cards after each event is completed, and brings them to the scoring area.

Scorers/Stroke-and-Turn Officials:  1 for home and away meets – these positions are for experienced team parents (or those with a personal swimming background) who attend training classes for these activities.

Concessions Support:  HFS usually has one or two families who have volunteered as concessions managers for the season.  The concession managers oversee inventory of concessions items, ensure their purchase prior to the season and/or meet as applicable, and maintain the budged and monies associated with concessions purchases.  During home meets, as many as 4 additional volunteers per half of the meet are needed to help maintain the smooth running of the concessions operation. Concessions managers are exempt from all other volunteer opportunities.

PARENTS **Above all, communicate.  Set aside time to talk with Parent Reps or Coaches with any questions you may have. We look forward to a fun season together!
